  • A Busy Sporting Week!

    Fri 22 Mar 2019

We have had a very busy week in terms of sporting competitions.

On Tuesday, the netball team competed in the final of the Basingstoke competition, having qualified last month. The team is made up mainly of children new to the sport and to reach the finals was a real achievement.

On the same afternoon, the tag rugby team competed in the final round of matches in the Norman league. They managed to win one of the final round of matches, meaning they finished 3rd overall in the league. Well Done!

On Thursday, the girl's football team went to War Memorial Park to compete in the Basingstoke Girl's Football Competition. After winning their first match 1-0 and drawing the second it all came down to the final group games to see who would qualify for the knock-out rounds. After a very close game the girls were beaten 1-0 and so didn't quite make the next stages. A huge well done for playing so well!

Finally, we today travelled all the way to Hurstbourne Tarrant, near Andover, to compete in the Girl's Under 11 Rugby Competition. We played against seven other local schools and managed to win two matches and finish sixth overall. Well done to all the girls involved.

  • Badminton Finals

    Fri 15 Mar 2019

Having won the Basingstoke area badminton competition last month, the team visited Eastleigh on Wednesday to compete against schools from across Hampshire.

They were placed in a group alongside three other schools and had to play against them in a series of singles and doubles matches. The total points from all the matches were then added together and the teams were placed in a league.

After winning against two of the schools and a narrow defeat against the third we had secured enough points to finish top of the group!

Well done to all the children who did so well representing the school.

  • Indoor Athletics Final

    Fri 15 Mar 2019

On Tuesday, twelve Year 5 children competed in the Basingstoke final of indoor athletics. Having qualified for the final last month, we had to send a much changed team as our Year 6 children were away on their PGL residential.

All the children competed in individual sprints and relay events alongside two other individual events. There were some fantastic results - including Hayden and Heidi throwing the furthest distance in the whole competition in the javelin event.

The whole team did really well and held their own against teams made up primarily of Year 6 children. Well done to all who competed!

  • Tag Rugby - Norman League

    Thu 07 Mar 2019

On a very wet Wednesday evening we played our next round of fixtures in the Norman League and welcomed three other schools to St John's.

Our first match was a very close affair ending in a narrow 2-1 defeat to Hatch Warren. After a short break we then went on to win our next two matches against Cliddesden (5-2) and Chalk Ridge (4-2).

The final round of matches in the league is on the 19th March. Well done to all who took part.

  • Netball Success

    Thu 07 Mar 2019

On Tuesday the school netball team competed in the qualifiers of the Basingstoke Netball Competition. There were six schools in this heat and they all played each other in a league format.

After a very close first game which ended in a 3-2 defeat we went on to win the next two games 3-2 and 4-0. Our fourth game saw us lose 8-0 and in our final game despite leading for much of the game we eventually lost 4-2.

This meant that we finished on equal points with another school and it came down to goals scored and conceded. After some quick maths by the organiser it was announced we had qualified for the Basingstoke finals day on the 19th March!

    Well done to all involved!
