School policies cover every aspect of school life. Below are some of our most important policies for your reference. If you want to know our policy on something that is not listed, please ask the school office.

What are policies?

policy is a deliberate plan of action to guide decisions and achieve rational outcome(s). Policies differ from rules or law. While law can compel or prohibit behaviours (e.g. a law requiring the payment of taxes on income) policy guides actions toward those that are most likely to achieve a desired outcome.

Why do we have policies?

Policies help members of the school community to make decisions based on a shared set of values and understanding, they should eliminate inconsistent and bad decision making. They also guide the way in which members of staff undertake their professional duties.

Who monitors our policies?

The Governing body is responsible for adopting and monitoring statutory school policies – all others are written and agreed within school by the staff.

Who writes our policies?

Some policies are written by the Local Authority policies that our school adopts, usually these are to do with issues such as employment law or child protection. Other policies are written in consultation with relevant groups of stakeholders, for example, our Good Behaviour policy was written in consultation with pupils, staff, governors and parents.

How often are policies reviewed?

This depends on the policy. (All review dates are listed on the front page of each policy). Many statutory policies are reviewed annually by the governing body such as Child Protection and Health and Safety.

Which policies do we have?

Many of the St John’s School policies are available for download in the right sidebar; you will require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them.  If you require a hard copy please contact the school office.  If you require a copy of a policy not listed either because it is not statutory or of immediate importance to the wider community, please contact the school office.
