Courageous Advocacy

Year 6 Enterprise Initiative- Charity Donations Summer 2024

At the end of the summer term, following on from their Enterprise project, the children suggested that surplus monies were to be donated to charity. After reflective and valid points made, the following charities were chosen:

£90 Spotlight UK                                           £90 National Autistic Society

As always, the adults in school were impressed by the children's Christian attitude and spirit to think of others in the world who would also benefit from their Enterprise initiatives.

Year 6 Enterprise Initiative- Charity Donations Summer 2023

At the end of the summer term, the Year 6 children gathered to discuss what charities they would like to donate any surplus monies raised from their Enterprise initiatives. After reflective and valid points made, the children voted for the following charities:

£60 MIND                                                        £60 WaterAid UK                                       £60 National Autism Society

The adults in school were impressed by their attitude and spirit regarding the Enterprise activities that they participated in, as well as the thoughtfulness to think of others in the world who would also benefit.

We encourage our pupils to develop compassion for our world and the people in it, through exploring issues of exploitation and injustice in an age appropriate way.   For example, after learning about the impact of plastic on the environment in their ‘Splash’ theme, Year 1/2 pupils wrote to a major supermarket chain with the aim of persuading them to stop using plastic milk bottles for their milk.   In year 5/6, as part of an RE unit, year 5&6 children discovered the work of ‘Accomplish Children’s Trust’ charity that operates in Africa.  After learning about a school for children with disabilities in a remote, poverty-stricken area of Uganda, they decided to raise money for the children.  They wrote persuasive letters encouraging the school community to take part in a non-uniform day.  In addition, they created and delivered assemblies across the KS1 classes to inform the younger children and inspire them to participate too. As part of their RE learning years 1 and 2 collected items for shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, sending Christmas gifts to children around the world, they sent 24 boxes altogether!
