Science
“Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.” -
Louis Pasteur
At St.John’s C of E Primary School, our vision for primary Science is to provide children with a variety of engaging, scientific experiences. Children’s scientific core skills are developed alongside building a deep, rich knowledge base enabling them to make reasoned predictions and draw reliable conclusions. Progressive first-hand enquiries encourage learning both within the classroom, in the local outdoor environment and beyond.
Our pupils’ science journey begins in the EYFS where children’s fascination with the world around them is nurtured. Their scientific learning journey continues into the main primary phase and in some units of work, Science is the key driver allowing pupils to be fully immersed in the subject for a period of time. In other units, Science is taught as a supportive subject or in some cases a discrete subject allowing for a focus on key scientific skills and knowledge development.
Throughout the school, scientific skills and thinking is cultivated through practical experiments, allowing children to be active participants in their learning. Children are motivated to achieve their potential and are enabled to develop deep knowledge and understanding of scientific principles and processes by the time they leave us at the end of Year 6.
