Year 5/6 Explore Wartime Life at Manor Farm
Today, our Year 5/6 students embarked on an immersive trip to Manor Farm, where they stepped back in time to experience life during the wartime period. The day was packed with engaging activities that helped students understand the challenges and resilience of families during this era.
Students participated in a range of hands-on group activities, including:
- Rationing: Here, students learned how families had to make do with limited food supplies and the importance of careful planning to ensure everyone had enough.
- Rag-Rugging: Using scrap materials, students crafted small decorative pieces, experiencing how people creatively reused materials to make everyday items.
- Decoding: This activity introduced students to basic ciphers and codes, offering a glimpse into the role of secret communications during the war and the ingenuity involved in keeping messages secure.
The weather was dry, making it a perfect day to explore the farm. The farm animals were a particular hit with students, adding extra fun and excitement to the day!
This educational trip gave our students a deeper appreciation for history and the resourcefulness of those who lived through challenging times.
