School Council

Our School, Our Say.”

Welcome to the School Council, where every pupil has a voice!

At this school, the School Council serves as the key platform for pupil representation. It provides all students with the opportunity to share ideas, express opinions, and feel a sense of belonging within the school community.

What is the School Council?

The School Council represents the views of all pupils, allowing students to have a say in decisions that affect their learning and environment. It encourages children to actively contribute to the improvement of the school.

What the School Council Does

The School Council works on various projects that have a direct impact on school life. Here are some examples of what the Council has been involved in:

  • Planning the School Charter: Helping shape the values and guidelines that foster a positive school environment.
  • Collaborating with the Head Teacher: Assisting in the development of the Anti-Bullying Policy and designing the bullying incident form to ensure all pupils feel safe and supported.
  • Playground Surveys: Distributing, collecting, and analyzing surveys to gather feedback on playground activities and areas for improvement.
  • Purchasing Resources: Helping choose resources, such as playground equipment and classroom supplies, to make school fun and engaging for all.
  • Raising Funds: Organizing fundraising events for the FOSJs or charities, such as Children in Need and Cancer Research.
  • The Annual CBEC School Council Conference: Participating in this yearly event to collaborate with other schools and share ideas.
  •

Who Can Join?

Each year, two pupils from every year group are elected as School Councillors. These Councillors are selected by their peers through a voting process, ensuring that each year group has a voice.

How the School Council Works

The School Council holds meetings every fortnight, following a structured agenda. After each meeting, class representatives report back to their classmates, sharing what was discussed. They also collect feedback from their peers to bring to the next meeting, ensuring that everyone’s opinions are heard.

Working Together

Although the Head Teacher, teachers, and school Governors make the final decisions, they always welcome and carefully consider the School Council’s ideas and recommendations. This collaborative approach fosters a school environment where pupils are heard and valued.

This year's school council was elected in November 2024. It will be led by Elliot and Percy who were elected Chair and Vice-Chair in the whole school election.
