Table Tennis Success

On Tuesday, we entered 6 teams in the Basingstoke Table Tennis Tournament at Aldworth School.

Each of the teams was placed in a group alongside 2 or 3 other local schools, playing matches against each other, with the top two from each group progressing to the quarter finals.

It was really pleasing that all 6 of our teams placed in the top two of their respective groups and progressed to the knock-out stages. For the girls the C team played in a really close match but were unfortunately knocked-out in the quarter finals. The A team were drawn against the B team in the quarter finals and after beating them went on to win their semi-final against St Mary's. This meant they played in the final against St Mark's. After some very close matches the girl's eventually won 3 games to 1 and were crowned Basingstoke Champions!

In the boy's competition our A team were drawn against our C team in the quarter-finals and our B team against St Mary's B. Both the A team and B team came through these matches and progressed to the Semi-finals. The A team then played and beat St Mark's A team to reach the final. The B team lost a very close semi-final to St Mary's A team and so went on to play St Marks in a 3rd and 4th place play off, which they won to claim bronze medals. Our A team then played St Mary's A team in the final, winning by 4 matches to 0 to claim the title and become Basingstoke Champions.

This was an enormously impressive effort from every child that attended the tournaments, as each team did so well. The boys team have now been Basingstoke Champions for 3 consecutive years and after a couple of years of 2nd place finishes it was very pleasing to see the girls go one better and claim the title. Both the A teams will now play in the county finals in Southampton on 1st December. We wish them the best of luck!

Well done to everyone involved!
