Table Tennis County Champions!
Yesterday, both the boys and girls under 11 table tennis teams competed in the county finals at Testwood School in Southampton. After winning the Basingstoke competition, this was a chance for both teams to face the winning team from each of the districts in Hampshire.
In the girl's competition they had to play 3 other schools with the overall winners taking a place in the Zone finals in London in January. In their first match the girls beat St Francis of Fareham 8-0. They followed this with an 8-0 win over Abbotswood of Test Valley. The competition came down to the final match against Horndean of East Hants who had also won their other two matches. The girls played really well and won 7-1 meaning they were crowned Hampshire champions and will go on to represent Hampshire at the Zone Finals.
In the boy's competition they had to play four other schools with the overall winners again progressing. The boys started really strongly with an 8-0 win against Horndean. In their second match they also managed an 8-0 win over Marchwood of Southampton. In the third match the boys won 7-1 against St Francis. In their final match the boys needed a win to confirm themselves as winners and managed to beat Abbotswood 7-1. This meant that for the third consecutive year St John's are Hampshire under 11s boys table tennis champions.
With both teams playing so well and both being crowned Hampshire champions it was an incredibly proud moment for us as a school. The result is a culmination of an enormous amount of practise on the children's part that has been facilitated by school staff and parent volunteers.
We wish both teams every success at the zone finals in London!
