Table Tennis - County Champions
On Sunday 5th December, our U11 girls' and boys' table tennis teams travelled to Waterside Table Tennis club in Southampton to compete in the county table tennis tournament. Both teams were already Basingstoke champions, having won the local round back in October.
The girls' event took place in the morning, with St John's having to play against each of the other four schools. The girls' played incredibly well and won all of their matches, finishing in 1st place, followed by St Bede's (Winchester), Ashley, Fair Oak and then Springhill.
In the afternoon the boys' also had the same format and after the first four rounds of games both St John's and St Bede's had won all of their games. It came down to a decider between the two schools with the boys' showing great determination to win a hard fought match 5-3 and claim the title.
It is an incredible achievement that once again both our boys' and girls' table tennis teams are Hampshire champions. This is the second successive year for the girls' and the fourth for the boys. It was also really pleasing to see at the U13 and U16 tournaments a large number of ex St John's pupils competing for their secondary schools.
Both teams will now travel to London in January to represent Hampshire and compete in the zone finals. We wish them both the best of luck. Well done to everyone in the teams!!
