Exciting Matches in the Hampshire Football Cup!
We are thrilled to share that both our boys' and girls' football teams recently competed in the first round of the Hampshire Football Cup, showing incredible effort and teamwork.
St. John’s Boys vs Princes Mead School
The boys' team faced a challenging game against Princes Mead School from Winchester. Despite their best efforts, the opposing team proved to be strong competition, and we were unable to score. The match ended with a 4-0 result in favour of Princes Mead. However, our boys played with determination and can be proud of their performance against a tough side.
St. John’s Girls vs Four Marks Primary School
The girls' team had a thrilling encounter against Four Marks Primary School. They dominated the first half, displaying excellent ball movement and teamwork, taking the lead with a 1-0 advantage by halftime.
The second half, however, saw Four Marks respond quickly, scoring two goals in quick succession. With just five minutes left to play, our girls equalised, making it 2-2 at full time. After extra time, the game remained tied, and it had to be decided by a penalty shootout.
Both teams were level at 1-1 after three penalties, taking the game to sudden death. Every player bravely stepped up to take a penalty, but Four Marks eventually secured the win when their goalkeeper slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. What a match!
A huge congratulations to all the children involved! Your hard work and sportsmanship on the field were outstanding. Special thanks to all the parents for their support in getting the teams to the fixtures and for cheering from the sidelines.
Both teams will now progress to the Hampshire Plate, and we wish them the best of luck in the next round!
