Year 3/4

Autumn Term 2026

In the Autumn term we will focus our learning around two themes, 'Who am I? Where am I?' and 'Escape to the Lakes'.

Autumn 2 - Escape to the Lakes

This half term, our learning theme is Escape to the Lakes, where we will be discovering the beauty of lakes, landscapes and the natural world through a range of exciting learning opportunities.

In English, we will be developing our writing skills by creating an explanation text about the water cycle and writing to inform, inspired by the wordless picture book The Window. In Maths, we will continue to build confidence with addition and subtraction using the column method before moving on to multiplication and division towards the end of the half term.

Across our wider curriculum, we will be exploring states of matter in Science and learning about The Lake District in Geography. In French, we will be learning about shape, while in Art we will be creating work inspired by the artist David Hockney. In Music, we will be developing our instrumental skills as we learn to play the recorder.

We are looking forward to a half term filled with creativity, exploration and exciting new learning experiences!

Autumn 1 - Who am I? Where am I?

This half term, we explored lots of exciting learning across the curriculum. In English, we created our own Top Trumps cards inspired by What Makes Me a Me? before developing our storytelling skills by writing what happened next in a story. In Maths, we focused on place value, strengthened our number sense, and revisited key learning through our daily Flashback 4 activities.

In our wider curriculum, we created self-portraits inspired by Lucian Freud in Art, learned to talk about ourselves in French, investigated the digestive system in Science, explored the history of Basing House, and designed and made a photo frame in DT.

We had a fun and engaging half term full of creativity, discovery and new learning!
